5 Must Have Shoes for Men

5 Must Have Shoe’s in Every Man’s Cupboard

At school it was drilled into me that my shoes had to be comfortable, spotless and immaculate. Shoes leave an everlasting impression and shows that you take effort and pride in the way you look. Style and comfort are two of the most important aspects to look for in shoes. I also believe that even wrong pair of shoes can make the classiest outfit look like trash and the right pair of shoes can make any simple outfit stand out.

My list of the FIVE shoes every man should have:

1. Black Dress Shoes

            - These shoes are a classic. They are simple, stylish and comfortable.
            - Perfect for formal or casual occasions.
            - Can be worn with chinos, denims and suits.

In my opinion, the perfect pair of black dress shoes has a matte finish, just because that would be cost-effective (who wants a full cupboard with every single type of black dress shoe ever?) and because that one matte black pair can easily match with any outfit. You can select from derby shoes, oxfords, monk straps, and loafers.

2. Brown Dress Shoes

            - Make You look rich and compliment most outfit choices.
            - I ask all guys to not buy the same design in a black brown dress shoe as you may have in a black dress shoe.

3. Boots

            - Very sexy and alluring. (Yes they are.)
            - Work great with jeans, cargo pants and corduroys.
            - Any style of boot will work; riding boots, cowboy boots, army boots, motorcycle       boots, Chelsea’s, there are so many other choices.
            - The little heel makes you look taller and adds to your stature.
            - Perfect for guys conscious about their height.

4. Leather Casuals

            - Extremely comfortable and hassle free.
            - Can be worn without socks (preferable with secret socks not ankle socks).
            - Can pick between laces or velcro.

5. Sneakers

            - Not worn for running, jogging or gyming in.
            - Used to spend a day around town. (Casual and laid back)
            - Work best with chinos and denims.

I Meet a Style Icon

Blogger/Model - Rayhan Boodhram
I sat down with the busy brand ambassador/model/blogger/traveller/socialite - Rayhan Boodhram. A volunteer benefactor and ambassador for Vision Child and Youth Care Centre and advocate for wellness focusing on mind power as our thoughts largely influence our success or failure. Rayhan is also involved in other projects such as DeafSA and Kuisine Spices.

How would you describe your personal style and is there a person who is a fashion inspiration to you?
My personal sense of style is situational and an extension of my personality. I don’t think I’m inspired by the who but rather by the what. For example, I saw a scarf the other day that really inspired me so much so that I could buy it.
How would you describe fashion?
For me fashion is a manner in doing something. For example, dressing, so I would put it down to clothing and how I style it. My personal self-expression.
Rayhan, you are a style icon to me. Who was your first style icon?
I guess my mom is my first style icon. She paid great attention to styling whilst growing up.
Congratulations on recently starting an Instagram blog, can you tell my readers a bit of what you feature?
My instagram started with random posts due to blogger who saw me in a mall. She said she loved my sense of style. So I started posting and the likes, comments and followers just grew. I post the events chronicling the days of my life. So I feature anything from fashion to food and all things I’m passionate about or currently involved in.

Who takes the majority of your photo's?
Photographers take the majority of my photo's.
What would you say is the biggest challenge as a fashion blogger?
I don’t consider myself as a fashion blogger simply out of respect to those who work so diligently and tirelessly thereto. I’m just a guy posting on Instagram for now.
Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years time?
There has been favourable responses to most of my feeds, including request for online interviews, features on other blogs (this being one of them) etc. One idea that has crossed my mind is a fashion label in conjunction with a friend who is a designer, however currently my personal goals are not fashion related. Interview me in 5 years to see if they changed and more importantly realised.

Every Man's Guide to Style

1. Simple styles

The difference between baggy and loose fitted clothes is that looser fitting clothes look comfortable but baggy clothes, they just look messy. As comfortable as sweatpants may be, don't give in to wearing them. Rather go for a loose fit jeans instead.

Being comfortable is all about fit, even in weekend or lazy clothing. So have your jeans tailored and get rid of clothes that you have outgrown. Worn sneakers are comfortable but when they have holes, it's time for them to retire.

2. Trendy styles

Trendy
Accessories are a must when trying to pull off a trendy look. Include hats, scarves, belts, watches, bracelets, etc.
Layering is acceptable too! Adding a jacket or waistcoat really finishes the look. A good tip that I can give you is to play around with your jeans because it's more about look than trend. Have different jean styles in your cupboard because some pieces look better with certain clothing. e.g. (bootleg, straight leg, skinny leg, etc.)
Boots will finish the look because sneakers are too casual and loafers too formal. Boots are both stylish and functional.

3. Business

Business
This is a professional look, but not formal. Just because your shirt has a collar, does not mean that it needs a tie.

Plain button down shirts are a basic necessity when styling. Sneakers draw the wrong kind of attention so on your first day in a new work environment it would be safe not to wear sneakers or denim. Dress shoes or loafers are appropriate when dressing business.

 4. Smart

Smart casual looks bring the elements of formality and casual together. With this style you can mix and match different blazers with denim.

Smart
A tie and pocket square is not necessary but if you feel like you want to, make sure that both pieces are the same colour.

Whether arriving for a lunch date or a meeting at a coffee shop. It's better to be overdressed than underdressed.

Shoes don't have to be formal though but when wearing formal material, wear a formal shoe to match. When wearing sneakers, make sure the style is not too athletic, but clean and casual.

5. Formal

Formal
Firstly, much of the style in formalwear, for men, lies within the details and accessories. Tuxedos and black suits are most common and not created equal so I recommend you to get your suit tailored so it fits your height and shape.

A solid colour suit is not a must, but it is traditional. If you are mixing colours, stick to dark colours with white pieces.

Lastly, white socks are too casual and should never be part of your formal style.

September 1st, on the 2nd

Yesterday was the first day of Spring, September 1

Hey guys!
Sorry for the late post - I know it's a day late but I thought I'd share with you what I wore on the 1st September 2016.
The below pictures of myself represent my personality and my style of dress, which is 'preppy'.

The first day of Spring season, in Cape Town, was cold and wet so initially, I thought about wearing something colourful and eye catching. But to my disregard, I ended up wearing brown and denim.

One can't go wrong when wearing brown and denim neither when wearing white or vivid white so I thought I'd add some more brown with a leather jacket. To be honest, I like denim and I think that I can rock any denim style out there!
Jacket: T-Man R899, Shoes: Markhams R699, Jeans: Markhams R499, V-neck Tee: Woolworths R120

What do you think about my outfit for September 1st?

Leave comments below and please share if you liked my post or have any suggestions.
